Kingscote is a mansion located in Newport, Rhode Island, United States. It was built in 1839 by architect Richard Upjohn for George Noble Jones, a Southern plantation owner. The mansion is a fine example of Victorian architecture, featuring Gothic elements such as steep gables, pointed arches, and intricate woodwork.
The interior of Kingscote is equally impressive, with rooms that are adorned with ornate plasterwork, richly colored wallpapers, and luxurious furnishings. The mansion also features a notable collection of American and European art.
Over the years, Kingscote has changed hands several times, serving as a summer home for wealthy families and a naval officers' club during World War II. In the 1960s, the Preservation Society of Newport County acquired the mansion and restored it to its former glory.
